What is SaaS (Software as a Service)?
A software delivery model where customers access the application over the internet on a subscription, with the vendor handling hosting and updates.
Software as a Service (SaaS) is the dominant delivery model for business software. Customers pay a recurring subscription (usually per-seat per-month) for access to an app the vendor hosts. SaaS replaced on-premise software for most categories in the 2010s because customers prefer continuous updates over big-bang upgrades and vendors prefer predictable recurring revenue over one-time licences.
When to use
SaaS suits most teams. The exception is when data residency or air-gapped environments are required - then on-prem or single-tenant cloud is still the answer.
