What is Story Points?
A unit-less estimate of effort relative to other tasks, used instead of hours to estimate work.
Story points are a relative estimate of effort - usually following the Fibonacci sequence (1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13). A 2-point task is roughly twice the effort of a 1-pointer. Teams calibrate over time. Points are NOT hours and don't translate to hours. The point system exists because relative estimates are more accurate than absolute time estimates over long projects.
When to use
Story points work well for software engineering where uncertainty is high. For straightforward delivery work (an agency producing logos), time estimates are usually more useful.
